Welcome Our Newest Staff Writers!

Updated: Nov 19, 2020

Hi all! We are excited to have brought on two new staff writers to our Honor Code Team Mailea and Edward!

Hello everyone! First and foremost, my name is Mailea (pronounced my-lay-yuhh) but you can call me Mai. I have two half-siblings, 9 step-siblings (6 of which I have yet to meet), three dogs, a mouse, and a leopard gecko waiting at home for me. I’m originally from Vallejo and the “home” I’m referring to is actually 7 hours away. The freedom is bittersweet, but I haven’t been getting myself into too much trouble. I am an honors pre-nursing major so I usually have to stick to the books. Aside from crying over Chem 140, I’m currently volunteering with the COPE health scholar program and I work part-time at the Robek’s here on campus. I really like memes, helping people, reading, acting, doodling, and writing. I really like nice people. I’ve been getting more into cooking lately; if I’m not going to be home then I just have to take home cooking with me. I usually vibe out to Childish Gambino, Tyler the Creator (mostly post-Flower boy era) and Frank Ocean. Now, I may simp sometimes but I try to be a happy simp for others; I really enjoy making other people happy and will try my best to remain as positive, enthusiastic, and encouraging as I can for them. Have to do the whole “Live, Laugh, Love” thing right? Anyway, I applied for this position because I wanted to have a positive impact on the community somehow and since I actually do enjoy writing I thought: “Why not combine the two?”. I also hope to form new friendships and feel more involved with the CSULB community. That’s what brought me here, and now I’m eager to share with you whatever I can! I hope that you’ll enjoy this time with me too and that you’ll be down for the ride.

Hi! My name is Edward and I am currently a Sophomore majoring in film. I joined the Honor Code as a way to discover and document the interesting (and wonderful) experiences of the Honors student body. Writing has always been a core component of my life and I am excited to start exercising my passions again! Some of my interests other than writing include photography, writing scripts, and going on spontaneous trips across California! I’m also a huge TV person and some of my favorites include ''Twin Peaks' ', “Mr. Robot”, and “Curb Your Enthusiasm”! So you can probably find me watching my favorite TV shows in between my classes or before work. You can also probably find me filming at the USU or SRWC as a Videographer/Producer for ASI Communications Video Productions, so come say “Hi!” if you get the chance! While I may look busy filming, I’m never too busy to have a fun conversation with anyone so feel free to talk to me! Outside of class and work, you can find me trying to beat escape rooms, eating at the Nugget, or reading books! (P.S. the Nugget has the best Breakfast Burrito around town, don’t @ me.) In order to sum up who I am, author Amelia Atwater-Rhodes puts it best: “Life is nothing without a little chaos to make it interesting.” I look forward to writing about the amazing things the Honors Student Body accomplished altogether this year and can’t wait to start writing for the Honor Code Magazine!
