It’s Spooky Season, Honors Students! What are YOU doing for Halloween?

Updated: May 22, 2023

With Halloween just around the corner, there are many events that are available to students all over SoCal.

Just less than a half hour from campus in Downtown Long Beach, the Queen Mary is doing their annual Halloween haunted attractions! Featuring 6 mazes to navigate through, a 4D theater experience, monsters lurking throughout the ship (they do not touch you), themed bars for those over 21, live entertainment with Dark Harbor Sliders coming back this year (a popular band who plays spooky music), concession stands to purchase food, rides, a R.I.P. Lounge Experience and more! At the R.I.P. Lounge, the captain sometimes wanders in for meet and greets. The lounge offers a special treat- an overlook of all of the carnival festivities. On select nights, enter into their Costume Contest to win cash prizes!

If you are a member of AAA, check their website to see if you qualify for discounts!

Admission is only $34 for general admissions and only $20 for the Happy Haunting Hour.

Check out their website to find out more about Dark Harbor!

Want to delve deeper into LA? Head on over to Universal Studios Horror Nights! Tickets range around $100 depending on the night, with Saturdays being the most expensive. Returning this year are five mazes, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Exorcist, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, The Curse of Pandora’s Box, The Walking Dead attraction, The Haunting of Hill House and Universal Monsters: The Bride of Frankenstein Lives. Grab a friend and conquer the mazes together! Or if you want to see some entertainment, watch the “Jabbawockeez” show to take a scare break.

Too scared of mazes? Take a friend and walk through the Scare Zones. Go see the Chainsaw Rangers, Demon City, and more scare zones all throughout the park! Check out this picture of the Chainsaw Rangers!

As always, you can’t go to a theme park and not buy any food! Universal Plaza has been transformed into a “Day of the Dead” theme where they are selling all sorts of Mexican food options and Halloween treats, as well as alcoholic drinks for those over 21.

Want to prove to friends and family that you were there? There are also night-themed stores in the park where you can purchase merch as proof that you endured Horror Nights.

So if you're not afraid, grab a friend, face your fears and go to Halloween Horror Nights!

Want to head towards Orange County? Go to Knott’s Scary Farm! Explore the eight mazes they are offering this year such as Dark Entities, Castle of Chaos, and more! If mazes aren’t your thing, head into the scare zones. But be sure to bring a friend for emotional support, it’s seriously scary! Go conquer the scare zones such as the Hollow, Forsaken Lake, Ghost Town Streets, and more!

Look into shows such as Carnaval de Grotesque, Doce de la Noche, and plenty more if you are searching for entertainment. Along with experiences, go ride the Halloween-themed Timber Mountain Log Ride: Halloween Hootenanny!

Just like how Guardians of the Galaxy at California Adventure changes for Halloween nights, The Timber Mountain Log Ride contains the Coffin Creepers Band, the town's Green Witch, a splash that is sure to get you wet, a high speed descent down Skull Mountain, and a maze of Jack O'Lanterns all on the same ride. Like Universal Studios, check out the Halloween treats that are available for purchase!

If places like Knotts Scary Farm and Dark Harbor are too scary, go back to your childish roots and explore the Oogie Boogie Bash at Disneyland’s California Adventure!

For this event, explore California Adventure after hours to see spooky decor all around the park. Take a friend or your family and get costumed up to get some FREE candy! Scattered throughout the park are stations where guests can go trick or treating with their sacks and get some free handfuls of candy!

Always wanted to take that one picture with Mickey Mouse to show that adults can have fun too? Character sightings are scattered throughout the park such as Mickey Mouse, the Headless Horseman, Goofy, and more. Wanting to “let it go” of searching for cartoon characters or successfully getting a thousand pictures with them, you can find characters such as Elsa, Anna, Maleficent, and more, just keep an eye out for them!

Can’t get a ticket for the Halloween bash? Buy a ticket for a select day when the party isn’t happening, and you can still enjoy all the Halloween decor, character sightings, and Guardians of the Galaxy: Monsters after Dark.

Can’t make it to these events? Check out more events in the local Long Beach area, such as Scarium of the Pacific, Long Beach Zombie Crawl, Family Fun Halloween Festival, and plenty of more opportunities to experience the spooky season!
